More

Sorry for the technical interruption. I thought the tower was the most interesting part of the church. The bottom picture is a train building that might be on private property and maybe not, because the railroad track is across the street. Gary and I always wanted to take one of those buildings and convert to a house. Didn't happen, but we had a great life anyway!

Last Weekend

I guess I forgot I was supposed to post sunrises and sunsets. I don't take too many sunsets because of the utility poles, and I posted my sunrises on Facebook. This past weekend I spent in Albuquerque visiting my family before I take off for my winter vacation. On the way home, I stopped in San Antonio and took pictures along the bosque and anything else that caught my fancy. It was a fun afternoon.

When I was cropping this picture, I noticed the real "star" in the bottom left corner. But, getting back to the two-leggers: Tammy, me, Marty and Sky. Tammy showed Sue and I her pictures from Germany and Amsterdam. Really interesting!

I guess this is the picture Sky put on FB. None of us can do without our sunglasses. It was a gorgeous day with my gorgeous girls. Poor Marty had to put up with us along with the dogs who alternately wanted attention and to be left alone.

Parker and Tuxedo love to pose.

Susie's spectacular mums. I also took pictures with my ipad, but I'll post them later.

Now on to San Antonio.

The clouds were wispy things.

I did some creative post-processing on this one. Learning something new every day is what life is all about.

These cottonwood trees will be brilliant gold and orange on a couple of weeks. Perhaps I'll be able to find some in Sabino Canyon.

I don't know what this that attached itself to this dying cottonwood. Would like some input if anyone knows. Maybe a wasp nest?

No signs to identify the church. Maybe it's non-denominational.

Our Poor Lake

It's water-deprived; even with some of the nice rains we've had. I have never seen it quite this low.

This is the butte, but instead of blue water, there's nothing but sand from this angle.

I took the pictures from the island where they set off fireworks; except, it's no longer an island.

I guess I got carried away with sky. The clouds were spectacular, and we did get some rain.

Looking south toward the marina.

My poor lonely Tracker dwarfed by sky and sand.

I almost hated to post these pictures, but the story needs to be recorded. Because of the clouds, we're getting some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I'll post some of those in the next few days.

Rain!

Thank God for the rain, even if it did put a damper on Elephant Days. Starting late yesterday afternoon and continuing through the night, it alternates between a steady light rain and a drizzle. I did get my walk in early this morning without getting wet. I didn't go to the parade and have not been to the event site yet. I'll do that tomorrow morning; after all, how long can it rain in New Mexico? Forty days and forty nights?

This is the rain on my dirty kitchen window.

This was taken through the storm door window. You can see the reflection of the trees in the backyard on the wet patio.

This is the geranium that I saved by putting chicken wire over the pot, so the rabbits couldn't eat it. I think I'll take it with me this winter.

Since monsoon season started, I've been trying to get a half way decent picture of some raindrops. These are on the leaves of my purple plum tree. When I get around to taking some pictures of the lake, you'll understand why I'm so excited about this rain.

Labor Day

Prior to Labor Day, we had our blue moon. Sitting on the patio again, having a glass of wine with Cindi, and she's says, "Oh, look at the moon!" I got lucky and got two pictures. I was going to photoshop my shot and make the moon blue, but decided to go a la natural.

The sage has been making me sneeze, so to get a good dose of pollen, I decided to go over to the Rotary Park and take a picture of the offending bush. Naturally, I used a little artistic expression!

On Saturday, we went to Hatch to buy green chili at the annual festival. Probably not the smartest time to go to Hatch unless you like crowds and congestion. I got out of the traffic and took a back road into town. We walked off a delicious Mexican lunch by touring the shops.

This is one of my favorite shops; sorry, don't know the name. The ristras hanging from the ceiling were so colorful.

People who take pictures tend to be a little nutty. Everything of interest to me was either hanging from the ceiling or high up on a wall. These are little pottery pots strung together like garlic.

I would love to start a cross collection, but since I travel so much, I wouldn't be home long enough to enjoy them, and there's no room for such a display in the motor home. So the alternative is to take pictures of some of the favorites that I see.

Coming up this weekend is Elephant Days and the balloon regatta, so that should be my next installment.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

My rving friend Judy Dill came to visit last Thursday on her way to Benson. After she got set up at the Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort, we went across the street and had lunch at the Inn. The skies opened up and we had a monsoon shower while we eating. That evening at Happy Hour we made plans to go to White Sands National Monument and tour a little bit of Las Cruces, time permitting.

Judy took some pictures with her iphone, and I had my trusty Nikon.

She got a picture of me taking pictures; imagine that!

Writing on the gypsum: a new form of petroglyph.

The clouds were hanging below the mountains to the east.

Returned to Las Cruces where we had lunch at the Olive Garden. After lunch we found two geocaches in the parking lot, and also got a virtual one at White Sands. Now I have a total of six. Judy has over 800!

While waiting for Deb to join us for Happy Hour, we played dueling iphones on the patio.

The boys had to get in on the act.

Yesterday morning Judy and I went for a walk and had breakfast at Hodges. While she was running errands, I noticed that one of my new cacti was blooming again, and Mr. Lizard was headed for the roof for some reason.

We got together at her rig later for Happy Hour and dinner of salmon, salad, and brussel sprouts. Got to eat healthy! This was the view of Turtleback Mountain from her site.

Judy in serious thought.

She carries her garden in her car. I used to carry flowers.

This is her rig. She has been full-timing for six years.

We'll be meeting up again in Brenda, AZ this winter and have tentative plans to caravan to Alaska next summer. Thank you God for good friends and good times.

Continued

We're going to try this again. Sorry for the interruption. I couldn't resist this big hunk of chrome.

License plate.

I think this a 1937 Ford Phaeton. Fred and I had one in Hawaii, but it didn't look anything like this. It was just a beat up old car to get around the island with.

I started the day taking pictures at the golf course, because Turtleback was completely enshrouded with clouds. This is two shots of a huge decorative jar. One looks like there's smoke coming from it.

While Cindi and I were relaxing with a glass of wine on the front patio, Woody woodpecker put on a show for us.

End of adventures for now!
